Papers of Jonathan Hasbrouck, 1747-1780, include promissory notes, military commissions and orders, receipt book relating to troop payments and army supplies, 1776-1780, other receipts, and his will. Items concerning Washington's use of the Hasbrouck house include payrolls from work done to outfit the house, 1782-1783, photocopy of a letter by Hugh Hughes describing the potential of the house as a headquarters, 1781, and letters of Jonathan Hasbrouck II concerning preservation of the Hasbrouck House as an historic site, 1839-1849. Other items include deeds for the property, 1749-1789, and a tuition receipt from the school operated in the house by the Misses Hasbrouck, 1833.

In response to the expansion of the Continental Army the number of staff was increased and reorganized in 1776. Changes included the creation of a new unit to supplement George Washington's personal staff. This special unit, the Commander in Chief's Guard, was formed on March 12, 1776 with Captain Caleb Gibbs (formerly adjutant of the 14th Continental Regiment and appointed Aid to Major General Greene) as commander.
